Reiki for Military: Serving Those Who Serve
Today I’m doing something a little different. Usually I write about an herb, a supplement, a modality, a product, or a medical condition. I tell you all about the science that make some things work, and debunk the pseudoscience behind others. But today I’m going to tell you about a revolutionary organization that’s gaining momentum in Groton, Connecticut that you need to know about. Today, I’m going to tell you about the Reiki for Military Program.
The Reiki for Military Program (RFM) is a truly unique business that’s tackling big, uncomfortable, and inconvenient problems head on. Why is the rate of PTSD in service members, even ones who haven’t seen combat, on the rise? Why are so few of those with a PTSD diagnosis receiving adequate help? Why is the suicide rate amongst active duty personnel climbing? Why is the suicide rate amongst veterans still so high? Why are chronic pain conditions more common amongst military spouses? Are they receiving help other than prescriptions for painkillers? Who is helping the kids of active duty parents, who are statistically more likely suffer from separation anxiety and long-term psychological struggles? If only about 20% of military spouses are employed, what are the 80% doing to occupy their time, engage their minds, and meet their social needs? Are there healthy and beneficial options easily available? Are enlisted personnel and their families able to afford healthy food? Do they know how to prepare nutritious meals? Are spouses adequately cared for during deployments, and supported through the depression, anxiety, and isolation without judgment? There are hundreds of questions like these that very few people seem to be addressing. RFM was founded by a former Navy wife who spent years observing and experiencing many of these struggles first hand. She was quickly joined by an ever-growing group of caring individuals, many of whom are also military spouses, who are pushing forward, against the odds, through the red tape, to affect positive change for a community that both needs and deserves it. RFM utilizes many holistic modalities that are not covered by Tricare, the military’s insurance provider, as well as providing an increasing number of classes and support groups. Therapies such as Reiki, massage, cupping therapy, nutritional counseling, lymphatic drainage massage, and more are used to meet each individual's specific needs, from pain stress, and anxiety relief, to reducing the symptoms and effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). Every therapist that is employed by the program is highly trained and skilled, as well as both deeply passionate and compassionate. The whole program functions on a reduced rate, sliding scale basis, and offers early, late, and weekend hours, making support attainable by everyone, regardless of financial status or schedule. Another huge point of pride for RFM is their commitment to kindness and confidentiality - creating a safe space where the toughest war hero or the most heartbroken spouse can fully relax and heal. RFM is currently in the process of obtaining their non-profit status, which will give them even more opportunity to meet the needs of their community. They have a goal of eventually being a national program, as well as continuing to expand their service and class offerings and increasing their financial aid options. RFM is very proud to partner with many local and national businesses, practices, and organizations, from Military OneSource and Wounded Warrior Project, to individual practices such as The Vital Mama, Barnett Chiropractic, and Natural Equilibrium. Reiki for Military is on the rise, continuing to reach out and serve the heroes in their community. If you or someone you know could benefit from any of RFM’s services, or if you want to help support this excellent program, you can visit their website at www.ReikiForMilitary.org . They’re also on Facebook and Instagram and absolutely love connecting with their supporters. Give them a “like” and share some encouragement with some truly excellent individuals just trying to change the world, one life at a time.
