MAN Sports Iso-Protein Review
MAN Sports is back at it again with another set of mouthwatering and unique flavors, this time, for their Iso-Protein whey protein isolate. We were thankful this Thanksgiving to be able to try their 4 newest flavors: Confetti Cake, Sprinkle Donut, Loopy Fruit, and Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.
Iso-Protein’s awesome product design, unique flavors, and fully disclosed nutrition label immediately caught our eye.
Supplement Facts:
MAN Sports has made a name for itself with their straight forward, effective, and quality supplements; this time they’ve come through with an extremely clean protein that delivers on the macronutrients we need. 1 scoop delivers 110 calories, 0.5g of fat, 1-3g of carbs, and 25g of WPI90 protein. Unlike many other proteins, MAN Sports make sure to include that out of the 28g of protein isolate you are getting per scoop, 25.2g is complete protein. MAN Sports uses WPI 90, one of the cleanest and most bioavailable protein sources on the market today.
Many other companies do not disclose the type of protein, where it comes from, or what percent of its claim you are ACTUALLY receiving. This is what puts MAN Sports Iso-Protein above many other proteins on the market, their dedication to high quality, and the consumer getting what they pay for. Aside from the 25g of protein, Iso-Whey is extremely low in fat, and has only 1-3g of carbs depending on the flavor (with NO sugar!)
For those of us who may be on a low carb or ketogenic diet, 1-2 scoops of Iso-Protein will still be feasible to use post workout or anytime! Aside from the low carbohydrate content, Iso-Protein also contains no sugar for those of us who are keeping track of that.
One thing that is also interesting is the amount of sodium, potassium, and calcium in this protein powder. Rarely will companies include calcium or potassium on their protein labels. MAN Sports discloses these amounts on the label and Iso-Protein is actually a great source of all 3 as well! Kudos to MAN Sports for again delivering a product which is far from your cookie cutter protein powder.
Flavors and Mixability
Loopy Fruit:
Although it has a slightly different name, you can probably guess which famous cereal this protein is supposed to taste like. MAN Sports absolutely nailed the flavor, so not only is it supposed to taste like it, it DOES taste like it. You are initially greeted by a vanilla flavor before the fruity cereal taste comes into play. The flavor is a bit sweet, and a bit sour, not in a bad way, but just like the leftover milk in a bowl of cereal. The main thing we noticed was no artificial or fake chemically flavors which can be common when doing unique flavors like this. The fruity taste isn’t subtle, but also isn’t over powering in a way that you would get sick of the protein flavor after a while. This is a quality that all 4 of the new flavors share—strong taste but not overpowering to the point where you don’t want more. The directions say to use one scoop in 8oz of cold water or milk, which seemed to be the sweet spot as far as amount of liquid. This product mixes very well in water, milk, almond milk, coconut water, and juice or sports drinks (Yes, we tried it as a last resort, and yes it tasted pretty good).
Confetti Cake:
This flavor is reminiscent of a traditional out-of-the-box white cake covered in vanilla frosting and sprinkles. It smells like a baked cake immediately after opening the lid. When drinking, you’re first greeted with a slightly lemony cake batter taste that eventually mellows out to a creamy vanilla frosting with sweet confectionary undertones like that of sprinkles.
Sprinkle Donut:
This one is very unique, and to be totally honest may be a misnomer. Why? Because we didn’t exactly taste a maple donut as much as we did an Egg-o Waffle smothered in butter and maple syrup....which is not at all a complaint! This is probably the most decadent of the 4 new flavors and makes for some great baked goods and ice cream! We also tried combining one scoop of Sprinkle Donut with one scoop of Confetti Cake. Hard to describe, but VERY tasty and able to satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooth's!
Mint Chip Ice Cream:
If you like Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies or York Peppermint Patties, this is your dream come true. This flavor is a perfect mix creamy vanilla ice cream with distinct mint and chocolate undertones. This flavor mixed the thickest of the 4 and made for some delicious coconut milk protein ice cream as well as frozen Greek yogurt chocolate squares!
All flavors mixed incredibly easily with just liquid and a shaker bottle (without a blender ball) and it seemed to do the trick quite well. No clumping, no grittiness, no residue left at the top of the bottle or bottom. MAN Sports delivers with another product that has great mixability regardless of what you are using for a liquid or to mix it.
Uses:
So, we already discussed that this Iso-Protein makes for an amazing protein shake, but what else does this particular flavor work well with?
• Protein Pancakes: One thing about MAN Sports Iso-Protein is it doesn’t make your pancakes too dense or flat. For those of us who have made protein pancakes, we know they can be super dense rather than light and fluffy. Iso-Protein actually made some pretty fluffy protein pancakes while maintaining the integrity of the flavors!
• Protein Oatmeal: Mix up a scoop of any flavor with a plain oatmeal or hot cereal for a delicious protein boost. Iso-Protein mixes really well in the warm oatmeal, we recommend adding it after you have it heated up. If you are making overnight oats or refrigerating your oats, Iso-Protein still mixes great, just make sure everything is stirred well before leaving to chill!
• Protein Sludge/Pudding: Whether you are mixing with Greek yogurt or milk or a little water, all 4 flavors make for a great addition on top of pancakes, waffles, or as a desert. Mix it with a little water or milk and drizzle on top of your pancakes or waffles as a great low carb alternative to syrup. When mixing with yogurt, you can chill or freeze it to make a great protein ice cream, topping, or eat it alone for some additional protein.
There are certainly additional uses we may have missed out on, but these were just a few of the options that worked well for us!
Price Point:
Right now, all flavors are available online for $54.99 on the MAN Sports website. However, you can get a bonus 20% off with the code MAH20, bringing your total down $11. This discount code can be used on your entire order, not just the Iso-Protein!
What do we think overall?
If you couldn’t tell, we are pretty keen on these flavors. MAN Sports knocked it out of the park with their new Iso-Protein flavors. Just when you think that all of the possible flavors have been exhausted, MAN Sports comes up with something new and basically revives our love for protein powders. The powders are so versatile and with MAN Sports, you know you’re getting excellent quality. Bottom line is, we need a round of applause for MAN Sports, keep doing your thing, and keep pumping out these great Iso-Protein flavors. We recommend, if you haven’t already, go pick yourself up a tub of their new Iso-Protein and break away from the typical vanilla and chocolate. Treat yourself this holiday season with new flavors of MAN Sports Iso-Protein!
